Zendaya Sets A Very BOLD Tone At The 2020 Critics Choice Awards In Tom Ford!

With the new year finally approaching, and a new decade finally beginning, the 2020 Critics Choice Awards was the setting for Zendaya to debut her first red carpet look of the decade, thus setting the tone for the rest of her looks of the decade, and boy did Zendaya set a very BOLD tone for her first look of the brand new Roaring '20s.

Zendaya, who was nominated in the "Best Actress In A Drama Series" for her role as Rue Bennett in HBO's "Euphoria", made a very bold fashion statement by gracing the red carpet of the 25th Annual Critics Choice Awards wearing one of the popular fashion runway looks from the Tom Ford Spring 2020 RTW Collection which consisted of a long high waisted skirt, and the statement piece du jour, a metal moulded bustier top with a harness attachment. According to Cherie Balch, owner of the vintage shop Shrimpton Couture, in order to achieve that perfect fit of the bustier, Zendaya had her metallic breastplate made to order in a special custom breastplate recast with Tom Ford, as arranged by her wardrobe stylist LAW Roach. The Metallic Breastplate also isn’t a new idea for Tom Ford, as most Fashion lovers and historians know that he introduced the concept in his first-ever Runway presentation for Yves Saint Laurent for the Spring 2001 RTW Collection, the look was a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent’s 1969 Collaboration with sculpture artist Claude Lalanne.

When this look made its way down the runway during New York Fashion Week back in September, it became one of the most talked-about runway looks of the season because it caused fashion lovers and fashion historians alike to talk about the many incarnations of the "Moulded Bustier" given to us throughout many of the fashion periods through the interpretations of a variety of designers from Alexander McQueen, to Hussein Chalayan, even to Issey Miyake. This red carpet moment also marks an important time in Zendaya's journey to becoming a Fashion Icon because this is another red carpet moment for Zendaya with an established fashion brand. This is also her first major red carpet moment with Tom Ford, who has also designed for fashion houses Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent back in the day.

For the accessories, Zendaya went for her favorite shoe designer of choice, Parisian based Christian Louboutin, this time foregoing her signature "So Kate's" for the "Iriza" 120mm Pump in Satin, which is similar to So Kate but cut out on half of the shoe.

For Jewelry, for such a bold look, she kept her jewelry options very minimal, opting for two jewelry brands that she adores, one being Mateo New York, wearing their "Huggies" earrings, and for rings, she wore her other favorite jewelry brand, Djula Jewelry wearing their “Accumulation Ring”, “Tiny Fairy Ring”, and their “Band Ring”.

As for the beauty portion of the look, I was very excited about the hair, because I have been wanting Zendaya to give us a box braid moment ever since she gave us dreads back at the 2015 Oscars. Her box braids done by hairstylist Kim Kimble, fit well into the "Warrior Woman" aesthetic that Zendaya and LAW Roach were going for. As for the makeup, which was a pink smokey eyeshadow, with a nude lip, all provided by LancĂ´me.
