In Honor Of The MET Gala, Here Is A Look Back At Zendaya In Tommy Hilfiger!

In honor of what should have been "The First Monday In May" at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York City, here is a look back at Zendaya's look for the 2019 MET Gala. But before we can get into the look, there has been a significant update on the MET Gala 2020 "About Time: Fashion & Duration" Exhibition which as of today has officially been CANCELLED due to the ongoing current Global Health Crisis as announced by VOGUE Magazine. Although there won't be any MET Gala this year, last year's MET Gala was undoubtedly one to celebrate. The 2019 MET Gala theme exhibition was "CAMP: Notes On Fashion" based on the 1976 essay by Susan Sontag which examined the theme of theatrics, exaggeration, humor, and parody throughout fashion.

For the 2019 MET Gala, Zendaya gave the world an epic reaction of the iconic scene from Disney's Cinderella where the Fairy Godmother transformed Cinderella's torn dress rags into a beautiful sparkly ball gown. Considering that Zendaya had released not one, but two Spring and Fall TOMMY X ZENDAYA Capsule collections in 2019, Tommy Hilfiger was the obvious brand of choice for Zendaya to choose.

For the red carpet entrance, Zendaya showed up to the event with her Fairy Godbrother, her Image Architect LAW Roach, donning a Cinderella costume. As LAW waved his magic wand, Zendaya's dress lit up, expanded, and contracted before they made their way up the red carpet and playfully recreated Cinderella losing her glass slipper. The inspiration behind this look was a transition, specifically for Zendaya who was about to start her new gritty HBO TV series "Euphoria". Zendaya dressed as Cinderella wanted this moment to mark the end of her journey with Disney Channel as one of their stars.

The technology behind the look was awesome, as the dress was completely animatronic. In order o achieve the robotics behind the dress, the Tommy Hilfiger team tracked down the engineering team behind the animatronic dresses seen at the Spring 2007 Couture collection of Fashion Designer Hussien Chalayan. The complete engineering of the animatronic dress took over two months to complete and had to be tested for structure and weather conditions before Zendaya was allowed to wear it to the MET Gala.

For accessories, the jewelry was all custom black stud earrings, rings, and a custom choker made out of bracelets from the brand Stefere Jewelry.

Also for accessories, keeping within the Cinderella motif, Zendaya carried a jewel-encrusted Pumpkin Carriage minaudiere bag from Judith Leiber.

For the actual party, Zendaya switched from her big poofy Cinderella gown into a pink plunging neckline dress with a high slit and long train, made to mimic the tattered rags that Cinderella was in once the magic clock struck 12. This was also a Tommy Hilfiger design.

For shoes, Zendaya wore the "Divina" 140mm Platform Sandal by one of her favorite shoe brands Le Silla.

The glam of the evening consisted of hair by Ursula Stephen and makeup by Sheika Daley for using Lancome, the cosmetic brand that Zendaya was revealed as the face of earlier in 2019. Fun fact about this that according to Ursula Stephen, the Cinderella look was a complete surprise, and that they had no idea what they were going to be doing until they saw the dress in the studio.
